Clocking in/out

Hi everyone! My company is new to Jobber and we are working on getting all the details set up within the portal. So far so good, but there is one hurdle we are trying to overcome - technicians' capability to clock in and out for the day. I do not want it to be possible for them to do so on their phone because, as everyone can imagine, time theft could occur. Though I understand that there are features for automatic location timers and way points, it seems like that would be more work involved for us to monitor accuracy and make edits on time punches on a daily basis. I also know that we can set up a tablet in the office for our techs to clock in/out when they are physically on site to start and end their day, but using their email to log into Jobber to do so would pose the issues - most of our techs are not English speaking and do not use email so it would take time for them to log in/out each day. Our previous program had the capability for our techs to clock in/out using a tablet in office with a 4-digit code (the last digits of their phone number). We liked this because of the ease, speed, and simplicity it took for everyone.

Sorry for my long-winded post, but all in all, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on ways we can make the daily clocking in/out the most efficient and uncomplicated for EVERYONE involved, meaning techs AND office personnel. I appreciate the help and advice!

  • While it takes time to implement, my recommendation is to utilize jobbers clock in and out features. We have 28 employees and they clock in and out for the day using jobber, and they clock in and out of each job. The gps is marked for each transaction and we did have to monitor them closely for about 6 months until they all realized we were not messing around.

we have now been using it for 4 years and it’s amazing. We take that timesheet report and enter it into adp for payroll. It’s really helped us streamline our process.

it’s hard implementing something new, but it is necessary to grow. I hope this helps - you can do it!

This may not be something the Jobber can handle the way your previous provider did, at least as of today. Admittedly, it can be very difficult to find one platform that does everything - if only life was that easy!! 😎 Perhaps you can still utilize your old solution for the clock in/out feature specifically??

  • The automatic location feature is the only option I can recommend, but I'm unaware of whether the technicians can use that data to support reconciling their hours at each site at the end of the day?

Hi Natalie! We are experiencing a similar hurdle, we use ADP for payroll and employees currently use their cell phones to clock in and out. This has created a mess on a weekly basis when payroll is due... hours of auditing, etc.

Please follow up if you find a solution, would love to hear potential fixes for this!

Depending on your Jobber plan, you can create individual logins for your technicians, which will separate each worker’s timesheets. Keep in mind that personal clock-in time is different from tracking how long a job takes to complete. While Jobber provides tools to monitor this, it’s still important to have someone verify that the work is actually being done.

Regarding email setup, if your company uses a domain email service like Google Workspace, you can create a shared email such as workers@mycompany.com and use aliases like worker1@mycompany.com for each technician. This allows you to manage multiple accounts without incurring extra costs for additional email addresses.

Jobber can easily set up new users under these email aliases, and you’ll have control over actions like password resets. Workers don’t need full email access—just credentials to log in to the app. Ideally, you should provide a company device for this purpose to maintain control over your data and ensure it stays within your organization.

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you need further assistance.
