We sold firewood for several years to keep employees busy during down time.  We had a tree service that dropped off wood already cut to length so we only had to split and stack in IBC totes.  We started selling individual ricks to customers but ended up selling to two separate stores our last few years.  Delivery is a good idea instead of meeting each buyer on site.  Price it dumped in a pile to save you a lot of time.  We did all this on about a 1/2 acre area and used a skid, skid splitter (for large 20" plus rounds), 20 ft conveyor and 30 ton splitter.  Prices will vary depending on location but in central KY we expect around $95-105 per 4x8 rick.  Last year selling, we sold 375 ricks.  We had a hoop shelter set up to split on rain days.  The wood needs to sit about a year after splitting to be the right moisture content for burning.  Firewood work covered the cost of our employees and we made a little extra money but it is hard work.
