Serving the elderly

Hi guys, my name is DJ
Iona, a small handyman business. I’m mostly servicing a 55+ elderly community. Are there certain any tips or items of monthly maintenance that you see most beneficial as an offer offering for a monthly subscription model?

Are you guys seeing the subscription model work for your businesses?

I’d love to hear any input regarding that. Some of these folks are snowbirds and our absentee owners for five months out of the year?

Thanks

  • In the Fall I would certainly offer some type of gutter clean out for those customers with trees, also, Spring I would offer pressure washing.

  • As a service provider, such as yourself but primarily in the landscape business, I offer monthly service plans for mowing maintenance, etc. but I also listen to the client and listen to their wants and needs and accommodate that way know your client’s budget or price range. listen to what they really wanna see and offer that and what they really need for the elderly one of the most important things is a clear and safe passageway, ensuring their walkways Are safe without hazards for stairways the rails and their walkways are clean and safe is probably one of the biggest things you can offer.

  • Hey DJ. I am about the same place you are in starting a new handyman business. I am considering a monthly subscription model as well. I have not yet thought too **bleep** the details as I am still building the brand, marketing materials, Web site and misc things like that. I hope to have my grand opening in 4-6 weeks. I would like to start generating leads and setting up appointments several weeks before that.

  • There are definitely benefits to setting up a monthly monthly subscription.

For example, at my company we offer a subscription where the client pays a certain amount a month and they are guaranteed a 4 hour book once a month.

  • I have been working to implement a type of subscription service since I started. I have not received much traction. I have worked to try this extensively in the Short Term Rental industry. I feel there is an absolute need for it but I have not had the success of doing it. I have created an annual scheduled service list. These visits can be scheduled monthly, quarterly, or annually and the customer can customize what types of services they want us to focus on. Again, no one has jumped in. Since started two years ago I have completed over 600 jobs and have a good sized team working for me. However, people only want to pay for what they need and I can understand that. Commercially, this could be better for office clients as they budget for the cost and it can help them eliminate a position that is internal.

If you are interested in learning more about what services I have included, just let me know. People have only been paying for what they need.

  • I have set up a subscription but I have not yet had anybody subscribe just yet. As an HVAC company, I offer monthly filter changes in initial coil cleaning and then a coil inspection and quick cleaning

    Hi DJ,

With a subscription service you may want to broaden your market to include more than the elderly. Also, consider light lawn & shrub care to include seasonal treatments, light pest control, annual water heater draining/cleaning, dryer vent clean out, light touch up painting, small jobs - like clean out garage or tile small bathroom floor or install/change door locks, vaulted ceiling light bulb changing, basic plumbing, and basic electrical.

  • we have a home service business in area that does plumbing, electrical and hvac and they work on subscription base (pretty big company with lot of employees). basically to get us to sign up, they made the subscription only cost like an extra like $30 more than the one time service fee and then up charged to add the other services. we had them come out for electrical work and the subscription for electrical for the year covered the service fee if we ever need them again and was only slightly more expensive than it was for one visit. then they start in with "you can add hvac service for $xx" and "you can add plumbing for $XX"

id say figure out how to make it financially for you, and work backwards from there.
