  • What is the best way to make sure that customers dont get lost in email campaigns? Do you have a good strategy for call backs?

  • How do you ensure your email campaign doesn't get filtered out as junk?  I just tried to send myself a test email for a campaign I was working on and it ended up in my own junk filter! Thanks!

      Thanks for the question! This is a good one.

      Your emails can end up in junk for a few reasons. 

      Typically, Google (or whatever host you use) will flag an email as spam if your email is new or has a history of sending promotional emails, or if the message body contains spammy keywords like "buy now", "sale", "discount", etc.

      Usually, it's the former so I would suggest using a different email address. Ideally one with your name @ custom domain (jennifer@yourbusiness.com)

      Hope this helps! If that still didn't work, send some screenshots of your email address, email campaign, and the spam message :)

       

  • Hi, thanks for your time!

    I have a list of about 500 past quote requests who never purchased. I want to re-engage them with an offer for our fertilization and weed control program, but the challenge is seasonality as lawns aren’t top of mind in winter.

    To create awareness, many companies dye lawns blue or green during pre-emergent treatments. This first application is crucial if not applied now, weeds become much harder to control later.

    I’m considering an email campaign that explains the blue lawns, highlights pre-emergent timing, and provides useful lawn care tips before making a soft offer (discount or free service) with a free quote button.

    Would combining education with a promotional offer be effective, or might it deter engagement? Any suggestions to improve this approach?

      This is a great question. 

      For this type of promo, it sounds like your audience needs to be educated first before they buy. 

      What I would do is split this into two emails.

      Email 1:

      Educational newsletter style that hits on the negative effects of not dyeing their lawn (drive the problem home). Then talk about the solutions and some tips they can use. At the end, include a soft call to action if they want to take advantage of your offer and a button linking to your jobber form. 

      Email 2:

      Strictly promotional email on blue dye. 3-4 lines long just like you saw in the Blueprint session and for the context, you can start if off with something like "You might remember last week I sent an email on blue dye..." 

      That way, they understand how much of a problem it can be in the future if they don't apply this now so they're more likely to respond to the offer to your promotional email. 

  • Good question!

    I'd recommend sending 1-2 follow-up emails to that campaign over the course of 2 weeks to keep it at the top of people's minds.

    Aside from that, a lot of people just won't be interested which is a part of email campaigns

    That being said, for anyone who does express interest - the best way to get them booked in is to give them a call right when they reply to your email

    2. In your experience, what works better: educational email marketing or selling services email?

      Hey Julie,

      These are great questions! 

      1. The easiest way to unsub a client is simply to remove them from your email list or add a custom tag and call it "do not email". When you send your next campaign, all you have to do is exclude people labelled "do not email." Aside from that, most people will just unsub themselves if they don't want emails
      2. Education newsletters and sales-based campaigns both work well for different purposes. Newsletters are like social media: value-add content on a consistent basis without trying to sell people. You'll get fewer leads as a ratio of impressions to conversions so it works better for booking jobs if you have a large email list (5000+). Sales-based campaigns will get you more leads as a ratio of impressions to conversions (you can book more jobs with a smaller email list) but should be sent out less frequently than an email newsletter (once a month per quarter is a good sweet spot). 
      3. It depends what you're trying to do! If you want to target ads to people in your email list, then definitely. You just need to add their ZIP codes to your Google ad campaign. Easy. If you want to put Google ad leads into your email list, that's easy too, it just requires a bit of backend setup in your CRM. For example, if you use Jobber - make sure when you get a conversion (phone call, form submit, email) that they get added as a lead or client in Jobber so they can be put in your next email campaign (same goes with any CRM)

    I have one question for you. Do you think e-mail marketing is a long-term strategy? Gen Z don't email as much as us older generation do. My 23-year-old daughter NEVER looks at her email. And it got me thinking. In 5-10 years time, will email marketing look different when trying to target this audience?

      Hey, thanks for the question - you've hit on something really important here!!

      First off, I don't see email going anywhere anytime soon, and the data shows the same:

      However, you're right in that younger generations use tech much differently. 

      These newer generations adapt to new tech so quickly and are much more avid users of social media than older generations. 

      That's why marketing across several different channels like Google, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Email, Print, etc. is the best (and only) long-term, effective strategy that will ensure your business can thrive in adapting environments.

      And who knows - maybe a new technology will come along in the next decade that wipes out email completely, making it obsolete!

      Marketing on multiple channels will ensure that if one goes down, the leads don't stop.
