How do you help employees collect tips?

We run a cleaning company, and in our industry, tips are a regular occurrence.  However, Jobber doesn't support tip collection on the mobile app or on an emailed invoice.  Tips can only be collected from a credit card payment in the client hub.  Consequently, our staff rarely get tips.

Are any of you using other software to assist in tip collection for your employees?  Any ideas on how to overcome this issue?

I see. There must be a way to change the system in which you send the invoice so the tip function is available. Have you considered this? What service is it you're offering?

Our technicians collect payment from the customer at the time of service.  We don't send invoices waiting for payment very often.  Even on maid service jobs, where we keep a credit card on file, there is no option to collect tips there either.  We do carpet cleaning, duct cleaning, window washing and maid services.  We rarely send out unpaid invoices to wait for payment which is the ONLY way to collect a tip in Jobber, that I know of.

I really think you should try the free trial with Applause. We paid 249 to get a free trial. Mention my name and perhaps they can work with you on trying it for a lower upfront cost, they have been super flexible for us. I see it as an employee and customer retention tool. In this day and age employees need these incentives and when they know that these reviews and tips have a direct impact on their bank account that day, don't be surprised how happy your customers are with the level of service they will receive based on a new found incentivization platform.

THank you for chiming in !  I understand using Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App, but jobber doesn't integrate with those payments.  So what would need to happen is the customer would have to make a separate payment directly to the tech personally.  I'm sure that's a possibility, but that is out of our control and isn't a way for us to support our people, in my estimation.  I just wish Jobber would fix this issue!

While Jobber's wheelhouse doesn't cover every solution in-house, they excel by allowing seamless integration with third-party apps. One standout solution is Applause, which not only fills in the gaps but also adds tremendous value by boosting customer reviews—leading to increased sales and accelerated growth. I highly recommend it. Don’t wait around—the solution is already available; you just need to invest in it.

  • yes zelle, cash app, Venmo or cash tips directly to the employee

There is an outstanding platform that integrates with Jobber in the Marketplace call "Applause". We are in the process of implementing it and if you are located in US you are lucky enough to have that integration with a 3rd party Venmo deposit or something (not sure which one because the tip feature isn't available in Canada yet. It's also a review generation tool and a customer tip option also. It allows the business owner to bonus out $5,10,15 or whatever you want if the customer posts a review which is what drives that customer to post as they don't have to directly pay for the tip (but once they post they are prompted to tip on top of that). It has leaderboards for top performers and also a tech facing app so they can see their tips and bonuses.

I just did a demo with Applause, and although it has some cool features, it doesn't give the tech an opportunity to collect a tip at the time of payment of the invoice.  We already have a review aggregator and already pay bonuses for reviews, but with Applause, we'd have to choose between tips or bonuses on their app....Also, it cost nearly as much as Jobber monthly and a $1000 set-up fee!  Expensive!  I wish Jobber would just add a tip line to the signature line screen.  It's silly that we can't have that!

Each time the customer receives an invoice from Jobber, they have an option to leave a tip.

The Jobber app where our techs take payments doesn't allow for tips.  The only way an employee can get a tip is if the customer receives an emailed unpaid invoice and leaves a tip throu an online payment.  It doesn't result in many tips, if any, since our business collects payments at the time of service.  I realize tios aren't customary for some industries that use Jobber, but cleaning service providers can routinely get tips.  We know because they sometimes get cash tips and I talk to other companies that use other platforms who's technicians routinely get tips through their apps.  Tips are critically important for employee motivation and ultimately employee retention.

I would contact support to see if this is on their improvement radar.  I think it should be implemented as employee retention for a cleaning company hughely depends on tips.  We do not collect payments on the job and email every invoice out so we give a chance to the customer to provide tips.  I understand this would not be a good solution for you because of cash flow.
